Red leaf Calaloo (Amaranth) Southern Red is a unique amaranth variety with red leaves and deep red stems. Upright and tall type plants grow vigorously in hot weather, suitable for growing from late spring through early fall. Young leaves and stems can be harvested for cooking at any growing stage. Several cuttings can be obtained with the cut-and-grow-again method.

This variety is very popular in sub-tropical areas and India. The plant has large dark green and upright leaves. This amaranth grows vigorously up to 2-3 feet high in warm climates. Upon harvesting young leaves and branches for vegetable use, the plant will grow new side branches and leaves for subsequent harvests.
